sgh-i747m weird problem

Hey.

I have an SGH-i747M samsung s3

It had Kit Kat 4.2.2 on it and I wanted to unlock it with the *#197328640# method which means I would need to downgrade back to 4.1.1, 4.1.2, etc to where that option [4] was in the network menu.

I read you cannot downgrade once you get 4.3. Luckily I have 4.2.2 kit kat, right?

First I rooted the phone

then I made an imei backup just in case

went ahead and tried to use odin 3.04 (tried a few odin versions)

PDA checked and put in the tar.md5 4.1.1 firmware downloaded from sammobile. (Canada Fido 4.1.1 firmware)

Odin starts and fails every time. I tried a few different Odin versions, a few different variants of the canadian firmware, tried different USB cables (have like 5 random different ones), tried a slow speed USB port. Nothing. All the same error.

Any suggestions? I could probably download 4.2.2 and put it back on I am assuming, haven't tried. It would be nice If I could indeed get to 4.1.1 and unlock the phone for free... I am poor and on PWD. Thanks for any help
