The LG G7 ThinQ has been in the rumor mill for a few months now. This week, LG confirmed that it would officially launch the phone on May 2nd. AndroidHeadlines has now leaked official renders, specifications, and features of the phone, which means that we already know most of its features. However, up until now, we haven't known any details about LG's next V-series device.
This changes now as AndroidHeadlines has leaked major specifications of the LG V35 ThinQ, which is confirmed to be the next addition to the company's V-line of smartphones. The information is said to be provided by a reliable source, and is verified by seen LG in-house documentation.
Let's take a look at the leaked specifications of the LG V35 ThinQ:
Display
The LG V35 ThinQ will have a 6-inch QHD+ OLED display. The LG V30 and the V30S both have QHD+ P-OLED displays. Documents seen by AndroidHeadlines don't specifically reference the use of P-OLED, but this doesn't matter as P-OLED is only the branding for LG's OLED displays.
The question is: Will the display quality be improved over the V30? It's worth noting that the V30's P-OLED display wasn't on par with Samsung's latest-generation AMOLED displays, so if LG could close the gap in terms of display quality, that would be great to see.
It's worth noting that the G7 will skip OLED in favor of M+ LCD that has more white pixels. A previous report suggested that LG was turning to LCD for the G7 to cut costs.
The display of the V35 ThinQ will once again be a "FullVision" display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have an 80-percent screen-to-body ratio. Unlike the G7, the documents don't suggest that a display notch will be offered with the V35.
Design
The LG V35 ThinQ will continue the marketing approach of highlighting the phone being designed for one-handed use despite the use of a larger display that was first used by LG with the G6. LG will highlight the display's "extraordinary color reproduction", and "an edge-to-edge design" that is "crafted to fit in the palm of your hand." The company will also promote the lightweight nature of the phone by highlighting how it offers an immersive experience in a thin and light form factor. The V35 ThinQ will be available in two colors at launch: Black and Grey. Both options will adopt the same "premium glossy finish."
Cameras
The LG V35 ThinQ will have a dual rear camera setup. The cameras will be upgraded over the V30S ThinQ, as there will be 16MP + 16MP sensors. The camera setup will be exactly the same rear camera setup offered with the G7 ThinQ. The rear camera will have a 16MP standard camera with a glass lens, f/1.6 aperture and 10-bit HDR compatibility for greater color capturing. (The sensor and pixel size are currently unknown.) The wide-angle camera will have a 16MP sensor with a 107-degree field-of-view. (For reference, the LG V30's wide-angle 13MP sensor has a 120-degree field-of-view.) AndroidHeadlines did not provide any details about the front-facing camera.
The camera setup will offer the same features and benefits as the G7's setup. This includes being able to quckly switch between the two rear cameras, "AI Cam," and Google Lens support at Lens. The cameras will have an automatically activated Super Bright Mode (which the user does not have to be concerned with), and "superpixels" to ensure that the photos are bright even in extreme low-light conditions. The cameras have the ability to assess the surroundings and adjust accordingly, in addition to relying more on recommendations to users identifying what tweaks would add to a photo and suggesting those tweaks to users. Some of these features have been announced alongside the LG V30S ThinQ, and the V35 will represent a direct improvement on its functionality.
AI
LG will predictably position the V35 ThinQ as a "super-smart device", with AI that stretches to numerous sub-areas of the device. Examples include Super Bright Mode, AI Cam, and Google Lens. LG will highlight how the V35 can do more for the user wile requiring the user to do less at the same time, in terms of voice assistant features, camera, and other departments.
Audio
LG's V series has a history of being focused on audio quality. The LG V30 lineup has a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, and this is said to be what will be provided with the V35 ThinQ: a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC using an ESS Sabre 9228 (the V30 featured a ESS Sabre ES9218P). This will come with additional customization options and digital filters to fine-tune the sound to be more in-line with users' preferences.
The V35 will also have far-field voice recognition, just like the G7. This is designed to facilitate general voice assistant capabilities, and the phone will be able to hear users from up to 17 feet (5.18 metres) away.
In summary, the LG V35 ThinQ will have a number of features similar to the LG G7 ThinQ, most notably the shared dual rear camera setup. AI will be central to the phone's user experience. The differentiating factor between the G7 and the V35 will be display type. The G7 will have a M+ LCD panel, while the V35 will have a 6-inch OLED display. Also, the V35 will most probably not have a notch, according to AndroidHeadlines.
Other details about its specifications including RAM and storage configurations, battery capacity, and software remain unknown at this point. We also don't know the launch time frame of the device yet.
