We haven't specifically talked about the ZenFone 3 Max very much here on the XDA portal, but ASUS has been able to garner a passionate following for a number of their devices. The Max variant of the ZenFone 3 from ASUS was released one year ago and launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It's a mid-range device with a 720p display and a MediaTek SoC, but also has a 3GB of RAM variant and both versions come with a big 4,130mAh capacity battery.
Many Android enthusiasts beg for the big OEMs to add a little bulk to their flagships so they can be equipped with such a big battery. However, this is something that we generally see in a mid-range device. It can be difficult for an OEM to make their mid-range device stand out since they generally aren't using the latest SoC, display panel, or an eye-catching design. A bigger battery in these already thicker devices is easy to accomplish though and that's a big reason why we're seeing so many of them lately.
ASUS has come out and officially announced that the ZenFone 3 Max is now being updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. This update is for the device with the model number ZC520TL and the OTA update is being staged as we see with most OEMs. ASUS has told us that it will take about a week (assuming there aren't any issues that requires them to halt the process) in order for the rollout of this OTA update to be completed.
You should see an OTA update notification appear when you're eligible, but you can manually check in the About Phone -> System Update section for the settings application. This rollout has come as a surprise to many ZenFone 3 Max owners as it's quite rare to see an OEM push out a new version update to a low-end or mid-range device.
