Why has every Samsung phone Ive ever had show me as driving sideways?

When using google maps in location mode and not navigation mode, the physical phone will always be pointed straight ahead, but the arrow icon will be pointing off to the side as if I'm driving sideways. I used an iPhone last month and it was much more accurate.
